A Career Best Finish for Matt Young at TPCR (Pic: Gavin Skene - Stillshots.com.au)

Corfield Woods Motorsport Conquer Tough Night in the Office
Posted by: Ryan Corfield - Thursday, 26th November 2009

Saturday night, 21st November was the next round for the Sydney Sprintcar Brigade to hit the track for Round Five of the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway Track Championship. The night featured the twin feature format which would see two 20 lap feature race events with a 10 minute stoppage for fuel, tires, setup changes etc.

After strong previous outings for Matt Young and the Corfield Woods Motorsport team (especially during time trials) the team had been looking to continue this form. However, this wasn’t to be. The team finished the time trials session in position 25 with a time of 12.686 seconds. Fast time of the night was set by Marty Perovich with a lap time of 12.004 seconds.

“In time trials we always aim to make the top 24 so that we’re guaranteed a start within the first three rows of the heat race. We were only six tenths of quick time and we ended up in 25th position. It goes to show just how tough the competition is here at TPCR,” said Young.

The team was out of the seventh position in the first heat. With a different track condition than what had been seen in recent weeks, the team were challenged with trying to provide Matt with the correct setup. Matt held position and finished the race in seventh position.

This would now mean that the team would start out of the sixth position in the night’s B Main event.

Tonight's track seemed to be locked down and wide open which makes it hard for passing, but we managed to get into the transfer position early and hold that for the 15 lap duration. It’s great to just make it into tonight's twin feature main event, as a young team we need as many race laps as we can get at the moment to ensure we learn as much as possible about the car and changing track conditions.

In the first A feature Matt started out of the 24th position and managed to get up to the 18th position, which then meant that Matt would start 18th in the next feature. In between the two 20 lap A Main events crews were allowed to make changes to the car setup, re-fuel and make tire adjustments etc.

Matt once again showed how comfortable he feels racing the Sprintcar by managing to finish the second feature in the 13th position. A career best for Matt’s young Sprintcar career.

“We struggled during the early part of the night, but made good ground during the later part of the programme. I really need to thank the entire to the team for their consistent hard work that they have been putting in, remarked Young.

Scott Jennings, Matt’s cousin and driver in the V8 Utes series was also in attendance during the night and was the winner of the night’s 50/50 prize draw.

Corfield Woods Motorsport will next be hitting the track on December 5th for round three of World Series Sprintcars.

Corfield Woods Motorsport would like to thank sponsors: G&S Bulk Haulage, Corfield Woods Motorsport, Corfield Media Solutions, Vortex Racing Products, Sensible Business Solutions, Hungry Jacks, Watsons Express Transport, Racetec Seats and JD Electrical for their continued support of the team’s racing efforts.
