Yet Again... Another Successful Night for the Corfield Woods Motorsport Team
Posted by: Ryan Corfield - Tuesday, 17th November 2009
Matt and the Corfield Woods Motorsport team turned in a strong performance during time trials with a lap time of 12.515 seconds, which was good enough for the 16th position. This was inside the inversion, so if the team was able to finish in the top five during the heat race they would be eligible for a Dash Draw start.
“We have been working hard on our setup as we realise the importance that a strong performance in time trials will be extremely beneficial to the way things work for us later during the night,” said Matt.
The team started out of the third position in heat four. Unfortunately, Matt and the Corfield Woods Motorsport team didn’t get a great start due to a very untidy front row, which seen the Corfield Woods Motorsport team miss the transfer spot for the main event with a sixth place finish. This would then mean that the team would start out of the second position in the night’s B Main event.
The B Main got off to a slow start with multiple stoppages during the early stages of the event, however, despite this; Matt managed to get the lead right from the drop of the green flag and hold on until the last corner, which seen Roddy Bell-Bowen get the photo finish win.
“Matt did a terrific job to transfer through this race. He was dominant through the entire duration of the B Main,” said Gary Corfield, Corfield Woods Motorsport team owner. “We have really come together as a team nicely. I’m really enjoying this deal,” added Corfield.
“Hats off to the entire crew for their tireless efforts for giving me a great car. The end of the race was very close with Roddy. I think I relaxed a little too much towards the end of the B Main, but it’s a learning process. We did what we needed to do and we got a transfer position into the night’s A Main event,” explained Young.
In the A Main event Matt and the Corfield Woods Motorsport team started out of the 18th position. The first half of the event went caution free with the first yellow being seen at lap 15. Matt was working well within the feature maintaining position.
Unfortunately, Matt got a little too high coming into turn three and got the car above the cushion, which caused the car to jump out of gear. Matt was able to get the car back into gear and finished the A Main, something that the team was yet to do this season.
“We’re making small steps each and every time we hit the racetrack and it’s great to have finished the A Main. I made a couple of small errors toward the end of the race as I tried different lines on the racetrack. The crew gave me a great car to drive yet again,” remarked Matt.
The next event for the team will be next weekend, Saturday, 21st November.
