Corfield Woods Motorsport Start Season with Promising Results

This past Saturday, October 18th was the 2009/2010 Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway track championship season opener. After two practice nights during September, the Corfield Woods Motorsport team were looking for some promising results straight up.
The night started out when the team pushed out for time trials, which placed Matt Young in the 29th position with a time of 12.684 seconds. The team had smiles all around with this result as it was Matt’s first night in Sprintcar competition. This result meant that the team would start out of the eight position in the first heat.
Once again the heat started out well for Matt and the Corfield Woods Motorsport team, however, trouble then set in during lap three. Unfortunately, Matt flipped the car, but was no fault of his own. A wheel from another car came off and hit the Corfield Woods Motorsport #44 machine, causing Matt to use his skills to avoid the flip, in which he did a great job; however, the outcome that was hoped for was not received.
“It was just one of those things that in the end, I had nowhere to go and the other car flipped on top of me, explained Young.
Luckily for the team, the incident didn’t cause too much damage to the car. Only the front and top wing and a shock were damaged during the incident. The team thrashed between the heat and the beginning of the C main to get the car fixed which they did.
During the C Main, Matt once again showed that he is going to be an excellent Sprintcar driver with more experience. Matt started out of second and moved straight to the high line and drove around a consistent line for the C main win.
“Hats off to all of the crew for the hard work they have done to get me back out here after what took place earlier during the night. This win is for them,” remarked Young,
With the C main win the team started out of the 18th position in the B Main. Matt managed to pass five cars during the 15 lap event and finish in the 13th position. This brought the season opener for the Corfield Woods Motorsport team to a conclusion."
“I feel that we had a great night except for what happened during the heat race. We once again made some improvement and will continue to do so over the next few events. The Sprintcar is a little different from driving the midget and hence I will need to learn to make the adjustments. I also want to once again thank the Corfield Woods Motorsport team for this opportunity.
Gary Corfield team owner was pleased with the team’s achievements during the season opener.
“Matt did a great job out there tonight. It’s a shame what happened during the heat, but sometime in this sport accidents happen and it was an accident. It was nothing intentional on anyone’s part. Matt made up for this by his outstanding driving abilities during the C and B main. I’m looking forward to the next round of the track championship,” said Corfield.
The podium finishers for the Brian Healy cup were Robbie Farr, Max Dumesny and Mitchell Dumesny.
The second round of the TPCR Track Championship will be run on October 30th.
